Hosting a game night is a lot of fun. Food, competition and getting to know the people you are playing with, equals a recipe for a good time! These quick cleaning tips will help you out whether you are having a Smash Bros. tourney or a large group board game.
Make a great impression, and odds in your favor as the host!
Clean the Top of Your Refrigerator
No matter if you have super close family or you are getting to know someone new, sometimes hosts handling multiple people will have a help yourself atmosphere. This is great, to get comfortable with one another and allowing someone to help themselves out to your fridge can be a great ice breaker. 70 inches is about the average height for a fridge. Many friends and family members are much taller than that, sometimes it is “out of sight out of mind”, but this may be one of the hot spots of the night so be sure to think about that.
Scent Around the House
Studies have shown that people who smell fragrances, associate the location with cleanliness. More specifically, clean doesn’t necessarily have a particular smell (that is why soaps and detergent come in all different scents). Rather people associate clean with the absent of offensive odors or unfamiliar odors. So when you are in the semi-finals of a Smash tourney and the pressure starts to make you perspire, have no fear because you took pro-cautions and insured that the house (and you) have a pleasant scent.

We love our pets!(we have two cats). Though we love our pets, we all have that in-law who is allergic to them. To be the host/hostess with the most-ess, remember to consider the allergies of our guests. Here are a couple ways to do it quickly. 1. use a lint roller, this is good for seat and couches that need to be touched up quickly. 2. Sweeping, and I mean sweeping with a broom. (I am not one of those who say sweeping for vacuuming, I could make a whole blog about that!). Sweeping under the cabinets and under tables, where these hardwood or tile surfaces may be hiding some hair. 3. Vacuuming, is of course something that will most likely get done, but how about taking out the trash afterwards. Dumping the pet hair you just swept up or vacuumed up, is great, but if you have it laying in the trash people with strong allergies can still feel the effects.
Clean the Outside of Your House Entrance
Nothing says “welcome to my home” like a deflated pumpkin that got forgotten about after Thanksgiving. This is where people will get their first impression not only of the home, but of the people that live inside of it, though I have been guilty of forgetting a decoration or two, let your guests know that you thought of them and clean up the entry way to your home.
Game nights are not complete without food. If you invite me to a game night without food, I will still be courteous but next time, I will host the game night and have food! No matter if you decide to order pizza, or cook, ensure that the table is pristine and sterile. Personally I recommend a cheap cover for the table that has the food, so it can be an easy clean up afterwards.
These are just some quick tips. Hosting a game night is fun and a great way to spend time with your favorite people.
